San Antonio is a Best Buy City and one of the best places in the nation to get a job. It’s perhaps not surprising then that the city is attracting one particularly elusive group. According to Forbes, millennials are “flocking to San Antonio in droves.” The publication used population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau, finding that “the Alamo City saw the greatest increase in its millennial population, people ages 20-29, out of all U.S. metropolitan areas during 2010-13: 9.2 percent.”
So what’s the draw? Forbes laid out several compelling reasons.
1. “It's pretty cheap to live here.”
Forbes used the Zillow Rent Index, which showed that, “The median rental rate for a home in San Antonio is $995. Other places like Houston, Dallas and Austin have median rental rates above $1,300.”
The affordability extends to some of San Antonio's most popular new-home communities, like Mission del Lago on the Southside. The realization that brand-new homes start from the $150s is increasingly turning renters into buyers. Builder programs at the South San Antonio community, like D.R. Horton’s DHI Home Buyers Club and Lennar’s Home Buyer Solutions Group (HBSG), also help prospective buyers improve their credit to get them in a position to buy a home at Mission del Lago.
