The San Antonio housing market is strong and shows “no signs of cooling.” That’s the word from the San Antonio Express-News, who used new data released from the San Antonio Board of Realtors in October, during which sales and prices kept “pace to set another record this year,” they said. Southside San Antonio is largely responsible for the record numbers as buyers discover this revitalized area.
The 2,500+ homes that were sold in the San Antonio metro in October marked a 4.5 percent increase from sales made as the same time last year. “The total number of homes sold so far this year stands at 25,961, which is 3.8 percent above the total during the first ten months of 2016. The market is set to pass the record set last year, when 29,545 homes were sold.”
The median home price in San Antonio has also risen, by 2.4 percent over last year. However, San Antonio’s median price of $207,100 still puts it among the country’s more affordable metros—which, in turn, draws more homebuyers. The pattern is expected to continue as “San Antonio’s growing population pushes up demand,” they said.
Growth in Southside San Antonio, and, especially, among new-home communities, is driving the overall numbers. “Those from San Antonio can’t help but notice the attention the south side has received in recent years,” said Builder Boost. “From master-planned communities to various economic development projects, the overall area is attracting more home buyers than ever before. With nearly 25,000 more residents who moved to the area between July 2015 and July 2016 (and who knows how many people in 2017!), the demand for housing is obvious.”
The site calls out Mission del Lago as one of the “master-planned communities that expand the level of community and infrastructure in the southern San Antonio area, providing “a ton of affordable housing options for new residents.” The Express-News also mentions “the growing Mission Del Lago community off U.S. 281 next to Mitchell Lake, where 800 single-family homes have been built and roughly another 1,200 are planned,” as one of the positive signs of the Southside real estate market.
A brand-new T.J. Maxx Distribution Center is in the development process right across the street from Mission Del Lago in Southside San Antonio, adding considerably more jobs to an economy that has been bustling with Mission Reach, the San Antonio Missions World Heritage Site designation, Brooks City Base, the University of the Incarnate Word’s School of Osteopathic Medicine, and Texas A&M University-San Antonio campus.
