Brooks City Base is already the most talked about and highly anticipated amenity in San Antonio, and as interest continues to grow in the Southside development and redevelopment project, so too does its offerings. The most recent news is the addition of a new charter school—the first charter school on the Southside—plus more exciting retail options including the possibility of “restaurants and potentially banks and a medical office,” said the Bexar Witness. The charter school coming to Brooks City Base is KIPPSan Antonio, which already “operates six schools on four other campuses elsewhere around town. A location at Brooks would be KIPP’s first campus in South San Antonio.”
The new retail coming to Brooks City Base “is expectedto spur formation of a town center-type development on site,” they said. “The retail development would be located on the northwestern side of Brooks City Base, and has been referred to as Brooks City Base Commons. ” Currently there is only a convenience store and gas station in that area; closeby is the new medical school from the University of the Incarnate Word that is currently under construction.
All this new development and reuse has been a “major economic catalyst for the area,” they said. “A large number of major businesses and residential communities have cropped up near Brooks in the last few years.”
All the new retail is “poised to lure more visitors south of downtown,” said the San Antonio Business Journal. “The transformation of Brooks Air Force Base has delivered an historic amount of new retail development to Southeast San Antonio, but those tasked with repositioning the former military site are convinced the campus is positioned now to attract more hotel investment and visitors, creating new economic opportunities in an area of the city that has missed out on much of the market’s multibillion-dollar tourism trade.”
San Antonio new homes, such as those in communities like Mission del Lago, have also contributed to the vitality of the area, with consistent growth and strong sales that have made the South San Antonio new home community the fastest-selling community in the entire city in its price category.
This 800- acre golf course community offers spacious single-family homes by D.R Horton and Lennar, a range of community amenities, a convenient location, and affordable pricepoints from the $160s.
