Brooks City Base, now also being referred to simply as “Brooks,” has grown from an exciting idea to renovate and add to a shuttered air force base, into one of the premiere work/play destinations in San Antonio. This area hotspot makes living on the Southside even better, and it isn’t done yet! Lots of progress has been made, so it’s a good time for an update.
The newest news
Brooks City Base just celebrated the Groundbreaking of The Greenline, set to become a 43-acre urban linear park connecting the base to the San Antonio River. Food Truck Tuesday was also launched at The Flyte, a new outdoor event venue at Brooks, that will be taking place weekly. Kennedy Hill Road improvements have also been completed; this will provide better access to The Greenline, shops, and educational opportunities on the Southside, and also incorporates bike lane and sidewalks.
“It’s an exciting time with so much progress at Brooks City Base,” said District 3 Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran. “Kennedy Hill Road is one of many infrastructure projects laying the groundwork for future investment and developments that are building Brooks City Base into a boon for the Southside and a great destination for residents from across the city.”
Playing and dining
Entertainment options and activities are increasing all the time at Brooks City Base. Newly opened City Base Cinema features Sony 4K, leather seats, and state-of-the-art digital sound. Game On offers arcade games, laser tag, ballocity, and bumper cars, as well as food and drink specials.
