Get Out This Weekend in Southside San Antonio

Warmer weather in Texas always calls for a great patio and getting together with friends and family to try new restaurants. Southside San Antonio is home to a great mix of traditional fare with the King Williams District’s variety of unique restaurants nearby. Try one of these new or old favorites the next time you plan a lunch or night out.

Bud Jones

Named a Best Neighborhood Restaurant by My San Antonio, Bud Jones is a local seafood favorite. The restaurant is still serving up an original option of All You Can Eat fried fish and chips as well as a simple and delicious grilled shrimp choice. Since opening in 1958, customers have always been the focus of this family-owned restaurant which considers itself a neighborhood staple. Eating here feels like you’re sitting down to a meal with the neighbors across the street.

Don Pedro

Another My San Antonio readers’ favorite, Don Pedro has been a staple in the Southside San Antonio area for over 44 years. The husband and wife owners, Ruben and Leticia Sepulveda worked in the restaurant before purchasing it from Ruben’s sister in the 1970’s. Stop by and try the weekend breakfast buffet, complete with live music from 7:00-11:00am.

Blue Star Brewery

The atmosphere here every Tuesday for Big Band Night is just as exciting and energetic as the variety in menu items that Blue Star offers. The brewery began creating local brews in 1996 and offers a variety of local, organic options. Cool off this summer with one of their beer cocktails.

Bliss

Head to the King Williams District for this stand-out in contemporary American cuisine. Chef Mark is the namesake of this creation, bringing his culinary expertise to Texas in 1997 and opening this solo spot in 2012. Planning something special this summer? Book the chef’s table for 10 and get up close and personal in Chef Mark’s kitchen.

Liberty Bar

Another must try in the King Williams District, Liberty Bar has a history almost as rich as the food and cocktails. The eclectic atmosphere and great menu make it the perfect place to bring out-of-town guests for brunch or a late night dinner and cocktails.
