As the Eagle Ford region continues to expand, the importance of smart growth remains top of mind for area leaders and local industries. The University of Texas at San Antonio's (USTA) Eagle Ford Community Development Program recently brought together almost 100 businesses and community leaders to discuss area challenges and needs. At the top of the list, according to the San Antonio Business Journal

  • Affordable Housing
  • Infrastructure (Roads & Water)
  • Quality of life opportunities (Education & Recreation)
  • Ordinances to preserve quality of life and maintain economic development

Conversely, it was decided after “UTSA staff fanned out across the Eagle Ford holding meetings in different counties to bring community leaders together to discuss sustainable economic development” that the region needs less:

  • Restrictions for land development
  • Red tape
  • Reliance on government

SouthStar Communities’ Mission del Lago masterplan, located in Southside San Antonio, is among those communities that are already perfectly placed to meet the housing needs of the existing and future workforce in the region. The masterplan has become a favorite new-home spot for Eagle Ford Shale employees, with continued growth to further support families and individuals seeking a well-rounded lifestyle in a convenient location.

Mission del Lago recently announced its newest offering, Express Homes by DR Horton, with 1,422 to 2,600+ square feet homes and prices starting from the $150s, Express Homes helps to fill a void in the current market.

According to MetroStudy-San Antonio, a leading real estate research and analysis company “Only 33% of all new housing starts (are) priced below $200,000 in the city, continuing “the San Antonio market’s loss of its affordable product.”

Mission del Lago offers a playground and sporting field at Julian G. Gallardo Elementary School, tennis courts; and the 18-hole Mission del Lago Golf Course that winds through the community.
