Close after that, and you’ll have to wait until next year to claim deductions that can be “significant,” they said, “especially in the early years of your loan when you’re paying off a lot of interest.”

Interest rates are at historic lows, making homeownership more affordable than almost any time in recent history. You never know when they could go up, and even a small rate hike could take a bite out of your buying power.
