Sales of homes in San Antonio going strong this summer

The weather isn’t the only thing that’s hot right now. So are sales of Homes in San Antonio. The San Antonio Board of Realtors’ data shows that, “Summer home sales are off to a sizzler of a start in San Antonio,” said KSAT. “In May, even before school let out, 3,133 existing homes were sold — an 11 percent increase over the same time one year ago,” they said. The median price for those homes was $219,700 — a 5 percent jump from the prior year.”

San Antonio continues to grow with the third-largest population spike in the nation last year

More proof that the word is out about living in San Antonio. Data just released shows that, “San Antonio ranks No. 3 for largest 1-year population increase,” from July 2015 to July 2016," said the San Antonio Business Journal. The net increase was 24,473 residents, according to new population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Great news for those who are looking to stop renting and get into a new home in San Antonio: San Antonio is one of the best places for first-time buyers in the country, according to financial website SmartAsset. SmartAsset just came out with their third annual study ranking the best cities for buyers to take the plunge into homeownership. They used “data for every U.S. city with at least 300,000 residents” as a starting point. Their overall conclusion: “First-time buyers would prefer to purchase homes in stable housing markets with affordable housing and low market volatility. We also looked at the availability of conventional mortgage loans.”

IKEA is coming to San Antonio with new store

Quality of life and employment were two important factors in San Antonio’s ranking as one of U.S. News & World Report's best places to live for 2017, and both just got another boost with the announcement that IKEA is coming to San Antonio. The company is building a new 290,000-square-foot store near the intersection of Loop 1604 and Interstate 35. This will be the retailer’s fifth store in Texas and is expected to boost San Antonio employment even further; IKEA will be adding approximately 250 jobs to the city’s “thriving job market, as NerdWallet called it when naming San Antonio to its 2017 list of Best Places to Find a Job in the Nation.
